Some of our guests have referred to us as hotel accommodation, but we proudly classify ourselves as a guest house. We are not a hotel, and we believe our unique offerings set us apart. While the distinctions between a hotel, guest house, and bed and breakfast (B&B) may not always be clear, we’ve outlined what we feel makes each of these experiences different.

Hotels are typically large, commercial properties offering a wide range of services, such as room service, on-site restaurants, gyms, and business facilities. They cater to a diverse range of guests, from business travellers to tourists, and often provide a higher degree of anonymity. With amenities like a 24-hour reception and daily room service, hotels are designed for those seeking privacy and convenience in a more impersonal setting.

Bed and breakfasts are usually smaller than guest houses and provide a more intimate experience with the added bonus of a homemade breakfast. Often set in residential properties, B&Bs are run by the owners themselves, offering a warm and personal touch. They provide a relaxed, home-from-home atmosphere for those seeking a cosy stay, though the level of service and amenities may be more limited.

At Ravenscourt House, we offer a truly personal and homely experience, making us distinct from both hotels and B&Bs. As a family-run guest house, we focus on providing a welcoming, comfortable environment with individualised attention. Our guests can expect traditionally decorated rooms, locally sourced breakfast ingredients, and a warm atmosphere where we know you by name. We aim to make your stay as enjoyable as possible by offering additional touches such as a fully licensed bar, two guest lounges, and local knowledge to help you make the most of your visit. Our online reviews reflect the dedication we put into every stay, and we pride ourselves on going the extra mile to ensure your comfort.

While hotels offer extensive services and privacy, guest houses like ours provide a more intimate, personalised experience with a focus on comfort, friendliness, and local charm. Whether you seek a peaceful getaway or personalised service, our guest house is designed to offer a memorable, home-like stay with attention to every detail.

Very Charming

This B&B represents all the charm that is expected of Scotland. The owners do everything possible to make you feel good on arrival. The rooms are clean and charming. The breakfast, served under a veranda from which you can observe the animals in the garden, is very good. The place is perfect for visiting the Spey Valley.

We will come back! Well done Ravenscourt Team!

Wonderful Food, Wonderful Service

Eating breakfast at Ravenscourt was an incredible experience from start to finish. The food was not only fresh and delicious, but served in wonderfully generous portions. We loved everything on our plates, but the home-made items were highlights! These included the square sausage, tattie scone, and the bright, flavourful marmalade. Each bite felt like comfort and care!

We really enjoyed it and look forward to returning!

The super-helpful owners of the hotel, who could not have been more welcoming and friendly... Also, the beautifully recently redecorated rooms in a somewhat traditional style. And the yummy breakfast, with super-fresh eggs. We liked all in the hotel and are happy. We do not have any complaints. We look forward to returning to the hotel. Thank you for the stay,

Awesome!

The location was quiet and yet in the center. Private parking possible. Beautiful classic Scottish house. Comfortable rooms and an extensive breakfast with many choices. Extremely nice and helpful family/owners. Close to beautiful forests and the river. Great area for long and short walks. Good connections by bus. Supermarket and local shops nearby.

A gem in the Spey River Region and on the Malt Whisky Trail!

Owner Corinne and her family are the highlight of Ravenscourt House! Beautiful B&B and very cosy. We felt at home. Great rooms. We were also lucky enough to catch their game day, where they welcome guests and neighbours to play board games! The stay was excellent.

What the press say

The Herald – Best of Scotland – A staycation in the Highland town ‘that keeps on giving’.

Ravenscourt Guest House – A relaxed escape just a short stroll away from Grantown-on-Spey’s main street, this feels more rural than urban, set in leafy surrounds in an old manse. Choose from seven guest rooms – six are en-suite. A nice touch are the Highland Soap Company toiletries.
